Please explain the correct usage of the word ‘exception’.

Like, which of the following will be correct –

a) Everyone has to wear blue to the office on Monday. Even the boss is not an exception of this rule.
b) All even numbers are composite numbers. Only ‘2’ is an exception to this rule.

Are both of these correct?
