Now, wade in literally means walking in water or slush. Imagine a rice field full of water. Also imagine you have to do some work in the field so you come near the edge of the field. Now, you could either be this hesitant city boy (or girl) thinking whether to get inside the field and risk your shoes getting wet and may be a leech sticking to your legs or you could be this go getter dude who just wades in and gets the job done.

This then is the idea described by wading in. When you want to say, “Jump right in to the action” – you’d say, wade in and don’t waste time just thinking about it.

If you want to ask someone to think before jumping in the action, say, “Don’t just wade in – think hard”.

Thus, wade in, in a loose sense would mean jumping in action.

Let’s take a look at some examples:

1. The new manager waded into the action right away. He spent a lot of time with the workers, listened to their problems, explained them the company situation and within a week, the production started.
2. The new SP waded into the action and produced quick results. Scores of gangs were neutralized within a short time, several dreaded gangsters shot dead or arrested and peace restored in the city.
3. When you join the new job, don’t just wade in. Spend sometime getting the feel of the place, some time to understand the power dynamics and how things move and only then become very visible.
4. He is a man of action, a go getter. Give him any situation and he would wade in right in the middle of the action and get the job done.
