Loosely translated, path of least resistance would mean the least painful path or the easiest path. You can think of it as the movement of a river – it would take the path of least resistance, where the slope is the sharpest and rocks and stones are the minimum. The phrase has a wide applicability and you can use it to describe any situation where you want to refer to the option with least amount of hardships or difficulties.
