First flop was not the end of the world..

Amitabh’s debut movie was Saat Hindustani which was not a hit. However, he realized that it was not the end of the world and persisted. Ultimately, he went on to become the biggest Bollywood star.

Now, it’s not going to be the end of the world if you do not improve your English speaking skills, however, it will be quite harmful to your career prospects.

What is the end of the world?

The end, destruction, apocalypse. When everything finishes. In short, something very terrible and bad.

When you say something is not the end of the world, you are saying that it is not something very terrible. It is generally used when

someone is really worried and anxious about something which in reality is not that terrible.

Let’s take some examples:

1. You should start a business without worrying too much. Even if the first business fails, it would be the end of the world. You would have learnt many things and you would be one step closer to the ultimate business success.
2. Everybody in the company is worried about it getting privatized. However, I think with private sector management coming in, new challenges and opportunities would emerge. It is really not going to be the end of the world.

When someone is worried about what may happen and you want to stress the idea that even if the worst happens, he would still be able to live with it, you’d say it wouldn’t be the end of the world.

Let’s close with a couple more examples:

1. When I was a kid, I’d really be worried and tensed before the Arts and Crafts class. There would only be one class in the entire week but still it was enough to scare the hell out of me. every Wednesday night, it seemed as if it is going to be the end of the world tomorrow.
2. You have lost your job? It’s not the end of the world brother. Don’t get overwhelmed, think coolly about the opportunities open to you and dive right in. I am sure you’d do well.
