In this post, we seek our spoken English lesson from a clip of the iconic movie, Gandhi (1982).

This clip depicts a scene when there is a lot of Hindu Muslim rioting and Gandhi has gone on a fast to stop rioting. Some Hindu rioters come to Gandhi Ji and lay down their arms before him. Also, a person comes who says he has done terrible things in the riot. Gandhi Ji then tells him a way to redemption.

Embrace = Hug each other or accept or take up as our own (India embraces people of different religions and castes and nationalities OR Education should train us to embrace the diversity of human beings and not expect everyone to become just like us)

Not with your death on my soul = I don’t want to be the cause of your death though I have done other terrible things

Smash against = Bang something so hard against something that it gets crushed (He smashed the coconut against the kitchen slab)

Way out = The path to escape or get out of something bad (He has taken a lot of debt and the only way out now is to sell his ancestral land)
