Leap = Jump
The tiger leapt over the thick bush.
The soldier leapt over the terrorist and quickly overpowered him.
Vendetta = Revenge
He belongs to a region where vendetta is a way of life and blood is paid with blood often over several generations.
Justified = With good and just reason
Indians feeling angry with Kasab is justified because he was amongst the men who unleashed unspeakable horror on us.
Sham = Fraud
The government’s assurance to set up an enquiry commission is a sham.
Camaraderie = Friendship
You should have seen the camaraderie between the players. This reflected in the team performance.
Detention = To stop someone from moving about, to restrict his movement
The anti corruption activists have been detained and put up in a makeshift jail in a stadium.
Deportation = To expel someone from a place
If you go to the US without proper documents, you will be deported.
Backlash = Adverse reaction
If the government imposes too many restrictions on people and doesn’t let them express their grievances, there will be a backlash.
Machinations = Crafty plots, schemes
His mother in law and her evil machinations have almost ruined his family life.
Harangue = Forceful speech
The extremist religious leader tried to incite people with his hateful harangue.
