Superior English communication - spring back

Lal Badhsha was pretty much the low point of Big B’s career. But its remarkable, the way he sprung back.

Superior English communication skills will help you spring back from any career setback.

Spring means jump, spring back means jump back. But, jump back from where?

Obviously, from a bad situation.

Thus, spring back means rebound from a bad situation, turn around something which was not good. It is also used literally in the physical sense – something recoiling back, jumping back to its original place.

You can also compare it to the movement of a spring – just as when you release a spring, it comes back to its original place. When something acts like a spring whether literally or figuratively, you say it or he or she has sprung back.

Let’s take some examples:

  1. The phase when Amitabh did movies like Mrityudata, Ajooba, Lal Badshah etc was a bad one for him. But what was remarkable was how he sprung back from that phase and reinvented himself. KBC created history and then he gave several outstanding movies.
  2. The hunter Mr Gomes was now face to face with the tiger. They stared at each other with steely eyes. Mr Gomes knew death was near so he gathered all his courage into the black of his eyes and slowly raised his gun. The tiger gave a thundering roar and sprang back to the bushes near the rock. Mr Gomes knew the attack would come anytime now.
  3. Mr Khurana lost everything in partition and came to Delhi. However, he sprang back from the adversity soon and established a thriving trading business in two years.

Remember, spring back can be used figuratively as well as literally.

Some more examples:

  1. The cat sprung back on the table as soon as the clock struck one.
  2. The villain gave him a solid punch and Bruce Lee fell on the floor. However, before the villain could hit him further, he sprung back on his feet and landed a sharp kick on the villains forehead.
