A blast from the past, well, one thing is clear that it talks about something from your past. The blast bit seems partly for the reason that it rhymes beautifully with past and partly because it signifies an event which you remembered through your past. Obviously it would be something worth remembering – a blast for sure and not a whimper.

Thus, a blast from the past is something which reminds you of something from your past.

A blast from the past is something which suddenly and forcefully brings alive a past moment in front of you. Something which brings back memories of an earlier time.
