Better English communication - what it takes

Time and again, Team India has shown that they have what it takes to compete with the best in the world and come out a champion

You most certainly have what it takes to achieve better English communication skills. All you need is the right guidance and right practice.

In this post, we discuss the phrase, “What it takes”.

Let’s take some examples:

  1. Several MBA colleges run Entrepreneurship workshops these days where the students are taught what it takes to build businesses.
  2. The selection process to the army is very difficult. They thoroughly asses whether the candidate has what it takes to withstand immense physical and mental pressure and yet retain his bearings.
  3. Don’t underestimate yourself. You certainly have what it takes to lead your team to victory.
  4. Did you see the new manager? He looks like one of those MBA types with their heads in the air and absolutely no idea of how things happen in real life. Do you think he has what it takes to run this company.

What it takes means all that is required usually in terms of qualities or traits but can also include money or contacts or other resources. Thus a soldier needs to have what it takes to face bullets and still fight. An entrepreneur needs to have what it takes to begin a business from scratch and grow it to a thriving organization of people. It can also be used to indicate material resources. Thus, you could say, “Seth Dhaniram has what it takes to buy and maintain a Mercedes S Class”.

Let’s close with some more examples:

  1. Do you have what it takes to compete with the best?
  2. Indian entrepreneurs have what it takes to build globally respected companies. If the level of governance is improved, India’s economic growth would be tremendous.
  3. Umesh Yadav has what it takes to be a solid fast bowling option for India for a long time. It remains to be seen how Indian cricket managers handle him.
