Father figure = Someone like a father

The flip side of being an IAS officer is that you could be called for duty 24 hours.

Figure out = Find the solution to a problem
You need to figure out how to be at the office in time everyday. If you are late, you got to pay the penalty.
Mr Sharma, please figure out a way to keep your class quiet when you are delivering a lecture. There is always so much noise from your class, it disturbs other classes as well.
Put up with = Bear something unpleasant
I cannot put up with this insult.
The people of India have given enough indication that they are no longer ready to put up with the official arrogance of officers and politicians.
High spirited = Bright and cheerful
She is a high spirited girl and very ambitious
Sucked out = Taken out of me
When I reach home in the evening after office, I feel as if all my energy has been sucked out of me
Get the better of = Defeat me
You have to fight the circumstances to the best of your ability. You cannot let circumstances get the better of you.
In the last over, only 10 runs were needed which was highly achievable but the pressure got the better of Rahul and he got out on the first ball itself.
This is not me = This is against my nature
Yesterday, I shouted at a beggar on the traffic signal but I didn’t feel good about it. It was not me. Now on, I’d be gentler towards the unfortunate people forced to beg on the streets.
Indebted = Owing gratitude
